The recitation in the commercial was interesting. I didn't know that some don't insert a pause at 'wa qeela man roq'. It sounded different .. in a good way :).

Our Master Muhammad (SAW) said that a smart man is one who remembers death often. Unfortunately, death has now become a taboo, and people like myself fall into heedlessness regarding it. In reality, it is door thru which we must pass in order to meet our Lord. The Awliya describe death as the most anticipated moment in a mu'min's life, as he/she will meet their Mahboob e Haqiqi. It also serves as a deterrent to committing the most atrocious crimes in the universe, disobedience of the Creator - as we all know that the signs of judgement day will be manifested immediately after we die .. in our grave.

Anywhoo. what I really wanted to say was that the Urdu equivalent of the phrase mentioned above has a bit of a twist:
"Namaaz pardho, qabl is key (or, is sey pehlay) ki tumhari namaaz pardhi jai"

Translation: Offer prayers before prayers are offered over you :).

i think both arguments are valid -- because i heard that the two ways to bring people close to Allah and close to deen are, as you said, "الترغيب and الترهيب" -- which is more effective i guess depends on the person and the time for that person. when the Prophet (SAW) first called to people in makkah, he warned them about Hellfire from the very beginning also.

but yeah, some sheikhs and da3iyas (like 3amr khaled for example) tend to focus more on "الترغيب" and have amazing responses (here is why we should love Allah, look how much He loves you, don't you feel you should love Him the same, look at the sa7aba and how they carried on their lives, look at the Prophet (SAW), don't you wish you can meet him, etc). yet others will focus on "الترهيب", and some give focus to both.

so... Allahu a3lam :)

Although technically well done, I don't believe scaring people of death is a good way to convince, as said in Arabic:
الترغيب لا الترهيب
What do you think?
