ramadan kareem!

ramadan kareem!  just for fun, here’s a list of some of the things i’ll be using this ramadan insha’Allah:

  • quran android – free, open source quran android application.
  • haramainrecordings – latest mp3s for salah at the haramain (including taraweeh!)  these guys are awesome masha’Allah!
  • guidance for mac – know what time salah is with this useful tool on osx.
i want to remind myself and you guys to keep the ummah in our prayers, especially since many people are undergoing difficulties, war, tyranny, and so on…

    Assalamu Alaykoum;

First, let me thank you very much for this application, Jazakoumu Allahu Khayran.

I just got the images I always used converted to feet in your application (I try to keep the same images to don’t miss the visual memory).

    http://quran.mezheri.com/?f=width_800.zip

Everything works great, but when I run the application, it says do you want to download the images, as if it don’t recognize my images, I hit no, and it’s OK.

I didn’t have time to get in your code to see the test you are doing. Image size? image format? Hash?

I have some features request if possible.

    - Is it possible to support more riwayat, and have each riwaya in a separate folder.
ex.: images/warch/page001.png, images/hafs/page001.png, … or keep it simple: images/1/page001.png, images/2/page001.png Then have in the menu a drop down list to switch between riwayat or images exactly as we have the drop down list to switch between audio (cheikhs), I have the images for riwayat hafs, warch, qaloon and Al Qirayat al achr, may be somebody will be interested.

    - Is it possible to have an xml file definition for the images format and size in the root of each folder instead to have the parameters hardcoded. ex.: of images/hafs/settings.xml

    type: png
    width: 400
    height: 800
    name: Hafs

Actually I resized the images I had to get theme feet the parameters, sometimes it will be better to keep the same ratio W/H.

I’m a web programmer and never tried programming under android yet. I’m planing to get in, and I hope I can help in this project. For now, I can provide images, and get theme converted to any format/size, I use imagemagick.

    Jazakoumu Allahu Khayran.

@Nour Assalamu 3alaykum Nour. I just discovered the app yesterday and I wanted to use Warsh riwaya. So I used images I found looking like yours, but in Warsh lecture.

Anyway, I used 400×776 size, and not 400×800. If you check the original image downloaded with the app, it’s 400×776, 800×1294, or 1024×1656.

I also just discovered ImageMagick yesterday, Subhan Allah. But as I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard, I couldn’t use the Lion version ImageMagick provide now on their website.

Also, for the sake of size, I cloned the original images properties. So, 400×776, indexed 9 colors, PNG with Alpha channel.

Would you be so kind to provide the original Warsh images, like the Hafs ones you put on your comment?

    Waffaqaka Allah.

    salam 3alaikum,

@Nour – i am really sorry akhi – i only just saw your comment now :( please use the quran.android@gmail.com for faster support in the future insha’Allah. to answer your question, you are just missing one thing – add an empty file called .nomedia in the width_800 directory and it should stop asking you. it basically verifies the existence of 605 files. the .nomedia file prevents those images from showing up in the gallery for example.

i like your suggestions – regarding multiple rewayat especially (and the image size thing). i think technically, if you copied an incorrect image size in the width_800 folder, it will still work (i am just not sure what the default scaling is).

@abdul-aziz – you can install imagemagick for snow leopard either via homebrew (http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/) or via this script (https://github.com/masterkain/ImageMagick-sl).

    wsalams.
